Associate Professor Anton Peleg Wins Award

Associate Professor Anton Peleg has been presented the Commonwealth Health Minister’s Award for Excellence in Health and Medical research for his work on hospital-acquired infections and antibiotic resistance.
This prestigious award and medal was presented at the Australian Society for Medical Research annual dinner held in Melbourne.
Minister for Health Tanya Plibersek said this award recognises outstanding individual achievement by a young Australian researcher. It is is presented to recipients of National Health and Medical Research Council (NHMRC) Career Development Fellowships, based on assessment by a panel of peer reviewers convened by NHMRC.
Associate Professor Peleg also received a $50,000 grant to support his research in identifying the mechanisms by which the most important antibiotic-resistant human pathogens in hospitals cause disease.  “This grant will help Associate Professor Peleg to identify new targets that may form the basis of future drug development,” NHMRC CEO Professor Warwick Anderson said.
