New Aged Care Quality Standards now in effect
With new standards in effect, Air Liquide Healthcare is pleased to offer a special discount on portable oxygen concentrators to help organisations meet the accreditation standards.
The Australian Government Department of Health’s Ageing and Aged Care office recommends that older people accumulate at least 30 minutes of moderate-intensity physical activity on most (preferably all) days. Suggested activities include walking, dancing and gardening.
Organisations providing aged-care services in Australia are required to comply with Aged Care Quality Standards. Organisations will be assessed and must be able to provide evidence of their compliance with the standards from 1 July 2019. Among the eight standards, two focus on promoting independence of each consumer as below:
Standard 4: Services and supports for daily living
The organisation provides safe and effective services and supports for daily living that optimise the consumer’s independence, health, well-being and quality of life to allow each consumer to:
(i) participate in their community within and outside the organisation’s service environment; and
(ii) have social and personal relationships; and
(iii) do the things of interest to them.
Standard 5: Organisation’s service environment
The organisation provides a safe and comfortable service environment that promotes the consumer’s independence, function and enjoyment by demonstrating the following:
(a) The service environment is welcoming and easy to understand, and optimises each consumer’s sense of belonging, independence, interaction and function;
(b) The service environment:
(i) is safe, clean, well maintained and comfortable; and
(ii) enables consumers to move freely, both indoors and outdoors;
(c) Furniture, fittings and equipment are safe, clean, well maintained and suitable for the consumer.
