Tuesday, 04 March, 2014
Entries are now open for the National Medicinewise Awards, which will be presented at the 2014 National Medicines Symposium to be held in Brisbane in May.
The biennial National Medicinewise Awards are an opportunity to recognise the wide range of exciting and innovative quality use of medicines and medical test activities happening across Australia.
NPS MedicineWise executive manager and chair of the NMS 2014 Scientific Programming Committee, Ms Karen Kaye, says organisations and individuals can nominate their own work for an award or put forward the achievements of others.
“Across Australia right now there is a broad range of people and organisations involved in meeting existing and emerging challenges around medicines and medical tests,” she says. “We’re keen to hear about outstanding projects, services, programs and activities undertaken by individuals, groups and organisations: from clinical settings to private industry, academia, government, media, and consumer and other non-profit organisations.
“We welcome all entries that reflect a genuine effort to improve medicines or medical test use and consumer health outcomes.”
The awards recognise excellent initiatives that contribute to a medicinewise Australia in the following areas:
- Consumer initiatives: community level
- Consumer initiatives: population level
- Health professional programs: <$100,000 budget
- Health professional programs: >$100,000 budget

Winners will receive one complimentary registration to NMS 2016, publication of details of the winning entry on the National Medicinewise Awards website and in NPS MedicineWise publications, and either one year’s subscription to Therapeutic Guidelines eTG complete or a book pack of selected titles.
Entries and nominations for the National Medicinewise Awards will close Thursday 24 April 2014.
Nominated initiatives will be judged by an expert panel of representatives from across the quality use of medicines and medical tests sector. All winners will be announced at the National Medicines Symposium dinner on Thursday 22 May in Brisbane.
