Conrad Gargett’s recent health projects include Australia’s first fully digital hospital - St Stephen’s Hospital in Hervey Bay, and the $1.5 billion Lady Cilento Children’s Hospital (with Lyons) in Brisbane. Both projects opened in 2014 and are widely regarded as being at the forefront of innovation in healthcare design. In 2013, the Lady Cilento Children’s Hospital was awarded the International Future Health Project award by the International Academy for Design and Health.
Briefing for both projects stipulated a building that contributed to the local community and environment. This was achieved through a number of ways notably it is the prominent window apertures in both hospitals which attract attention. The permeability of the healthcare design response combined with connections to public zones makes these hospitals community buildings.
