Health Industry Training: Upskill your employees
Monday, 16 March, 2015
Have you ever thought about upskilling your employees? If not, it’s time you start.
Subject to where you’re based, there are various state government funding opportunities available to help support employee training.
Under the Queensland Government’s five-year training reform action plan, Great Skills Real Opportunities, which came into effect in June 2013, the government now provides employers with a subsidy for a range of qualifications in the health services sector. The size of this subsidy is determined by the investment priority and importance of the training in question, which for the health services sector is comparatively high
What’s in it for you?
Health Industry Training, a leading Australian registered training organisation (RTO), works with employers to upskill their employees. After seeing the gains many health providers have received from the Great Skills Real Opportunities initiative in Queensland, Health Industry Training is helping to spread the word to employers, Australia wide.
Regardless of the applicable government funding in your state, Health Industry Training will provide your employees with high quality supportive training that will advance their careers and increase their skill-set, and subsequent value to you.
Backed by a multitude of experience in the health and community services sector, Health Industry Training is the preferred choice for employers looking to upskill their staff. They deliver a diverse and extensive range of qualifications Australia wide, employing experienced local trainers within all states and territories to support students by providing 1-on-1 training. Realistic payment plan options and VET FEEHELP (for all diploma qualifications) are also offered to assist students and employers in managing the costs.
Queensland Funding
With heavily subsidised training available for most qualifications within Queensland, Health Industry Training is able to offer nationally recognised qualifications at minimal costs to employers. Through the User Choice, Certification 3 Guarantee and Higher Level Skills funding initiatives, up to 95% of the training cost can be subsidised by the government.
On becoming a statutory authority, a Queensland-based hospital partnered with Health Industry Training in late 2013 to upskill 32 of their support staff, who were without a qualification. The employees were enrolled in a Certificate III training program which was paid for by the government. In addition, the hospital was also paid $5,500 per employee in employer incentives.
In order to then further advance their workforce, the hospital used this employer incentive to enrol all 32 employees into a second Certificate III/ Certificate IV training program, at the mere cost of $1,500 per head.
Employer Benefits
The employer benefits from putting employees through further training are abundant. By having access to employees who can draw on a suite of qualifications which bridge vocational, administrative and managerial roles across a broad spectrum, employers are provided with:
- A ‘supply chain’ of appropriately selected and trained employees for the health industry
- Higher participation levels within certain labour market segments
- Increased employee motivation and morale, leading to higher levels of retention
- Innovative and responsive training delivery
- Good working partnerships with responsive employment, education and training providers
- Workforce planning which will assist further training, succession planning or staff retention.
Now knowing of the training available Australia wide, what employer wouldn’t want to upskill their employees? The benefits speak for themselves
